はじめまして  班石（まだらいし）ともうします
mysql-3.21.33をソースからコンパイルしてインストールをしているのですが、
mysql_install_dbで失敗します。下記のメッセージが出ます。
[root@hanbai14 mysql-3.21.33]# ./scripts/mysql_install_db
Starting mysql server
Starting mysqld demon with databases from /usr/local/var
mysqld demon ended
System may be under load. Waiting for mysqld to start...
mysqld demon is not responding. Please try to start it manually with
/usr/local/libexec/mysqld --skip-grant --log

You can find some information about why it didn't start by examining
the log file in the /usr/local/var directory.

Remember to include the last few lines from the log file if you
post a bug report about this. Please report bugs and ask questions
with the /usr/local/bin/mysqlbug script!
Before posting you should first check the reference manual,
section 'Problems with mysql_install_db' and then the MySQL
mail archive if this is a common problem on your platform!

マニュアルを見て「mysql_install_db 実行時の問題 」等をいろいろためした
のですがわかりません。
/usr/local/varのlogは
mysqld started on  Thu Aug 6 21:15:35 JST 1998
mysqld ended on  Thu Aug 6 21:15:37 JST 1998mysqld started on  Thu Aug 6
21:43:44 JST 1998
mysqld ended on  Thu Aug 6 21:43:46 JST 1998
が繰り返されているだけです。
OSはTurboLinux2.0で、付属のmysqlはバージョンが古かったのでインストールし
ていません。
どなたかご教授下さい。
